To Build a Bridge, We Need Knees on the Ground


Sunday morning (7-22-18) was the final morning with our church body before our team leaves for El Salvador. Due to illness I haven't been able to make as many Sunday celebration meetings as I would like, but walking through the front doors was like coming home. "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere" (Psalm 84:10, NIV, Biblegateway.com). 

Walking into the building where the Body of Christ meets and unites in worship and celebration of our Savior is a wondrous thing.

The El Salvador team is going to unite with the Body of Christ in El Salvador. In a way we will be continuing to build the bridge between our two congregations, especially with the young people, for the next two weeks. 

I can't begin to tell you what it means to be able to rest in the prayers of York Alliance as we go. Many of you came up to me before and after the service and reaffirmed that you would be praying for us. It's a humbling experience, and immensely reassuring. Thank you!

El Salvdor Mission Trip 2018
- Pray that extra housing will be found to host the YAC team.
- Pray that God will unify the team and that they will serve as the hands and feet of Jesus.
- Pray for the children attending the drama camp. Pray that represented families will be drawn to Jesus.
- Pray that a new relationship would be established between the youth groups of York Alliance and the Church of Faith and Worship.
- Pray that the team will be an encouragement to the pastors and congregation of the Church of Faith and Worship. 

Pray for the team:
- Pray for humility and openness (with God and with each other).
- Pray that we would find flexibility invigorating.
- Pray for health and safety for all.
- Pray for Mike, the team leader, that the extra challenges that come with leadership would be an easy yoke and a light burden (Matthew 11:30) through God's strength.

Pictures From the Youth Retreat - 8/1-8/2

A major goal for this trip was to bring the youth from York Alliance and the Church of Faith and Worship together, to strengthen and encourage each other. The retreat took place over two days up on a mountain. Memories were made and bonds formed. God's family is large and knows no boundaries, whether that be nations, languages, or cultures. Praise God! Mario's truck broke down on the way back, but they were able to get it running safely again and made it back to San Salvador. We were all glad to be reunited!

Today we start gearing up for the children's camp. Colin and I walk down to Mister Donut, order breakfast and use the wifi to upload the blog for yesterday. I feel so adventurous going out in the city and using my limited Spanish skills to order breakfast.  We stop at Super Selectos (grocery store) and grab a few groceries. We get some oranges since they're out of bananas. We grab some more mint gum while were there. There are a few team members with queasy stomachs and achy guts. Chewing mint gum seems to offer some relief and we're going through the packs we brought pretty quickly. After paying, we grab my backpack left with the guard at the front of the store (no backpacks are allowed in the grocery store).  It's an gentle uphill trek back to the apartment. Surrounding with a Prayer Wall - Last Day of Camp - 8-3-18

We begin the day with some rousing games. Here we're playing four square. We have some downtime throughout the day. We have made some beautiful connections with the children. It's a bitter-sweet feeling, to think we will have to say good-bye to the children soon. Then the day finishes up with a number of fun games. This is the infamous bobbing for berries challenge. This girl was determined to get that berry! At the end of the day we gathered, the children in the middle and prayed. At the end, we all held hands, formed a wall around the children and blanketed them in prayer. This was a deeply moving time for all of us.
