Prayer Requests and Meet The Team! - Picture! - 2-1-18

Thank you for your prayers! "We really work well together," several team members have said and we all agree. God has blessed us with unity and good humor, even as we feel the accumulating wear and tear of the trip. (Though, don't get me wrong, we have been blessed immensely by the hospitality shown by the churches here. Good food. Cots and air mattresses. We can't complain.)

- We ask for prayers for continued health and safety. Praise God we've only experienced minor scratches and bruises, not for lack of trying though.
- Pray for renewal. As typical with trips, sleep has been difficult to come by for several team members.
- Please pray for the people here in Houston, especially the children. A lot of recovery has happened already, but many people are still displaced from their homes. The emotional toll will take far longer to heal from.
- Pray for Philip. I shared some of his story here (Sunday Arrival Day). He is a new Christian, serving here in the community. He's had a rough past and is struggling with his Christian walk.
- Please pray for Pastor Carlos (Templo Emmanuel) and his wife Ruth and their three children, Isaiah, Noah and Aliana. They have given so much and continue to give. ... Pray for a vehicle for them. They are driving the church van, because the flood took both of their family vehicles.
- Please pray for Pastor Amondo Garcia of Pasadena Alliance and his wife Rosie. They have been walking their congregation through the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Pray for God's renewal and strengthening.

So what have we been doing all week? Pictures!

I'll try to keep this short and sweet. The team was large enough to divide up into three groups, one at Templo Emmanuel, one at Pasedena Alliance, and one an hour across Houston at a lady's home. The team has been painting, hanging sheetrock, painting, laying tile, painting, laying more tile, you get the idea. I don't think I've seen a bunch of harder working people. It's humbling to photograph.

Of course I can't capture all that has been done in pictures, but here are a few of the team!

Coffee is always a good way to start the day (Nate Eyler).

Millie Martin is our chef,
making breakfast casseroles, pancakes, sausages, and bacon.
We haven't been suffering.
Sweet Millie also has a sharp wit and good humor.

Deb Boyd has a roller, scraper or paintbrush in
her hand every time I turn around.
We don't really know what Steve Slyder does all day,
but he makes us laugh, so we keep him around.

Jeff Stock works hard,
but he also isn't afraid to stop work and invest in someone else.

Kandi Slyder wasn't sure about the ladder,
but once she got up there, she had fun.
She's quite handy with a paintbrush.

We don't know what Todd Jackson does all day,
but each of us is glad we're not trying to coordinate everything.

There's something wrong with Andrew Mackley.
After working all day, he'll gulp down supper and go back to work
while the rest of us head to bed.
We try to work him harder the next day,
but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Glen is amazing at tackling random jobs,
detailing, fixing lights, hanging mailboxes.
With this group, I never had to ask for help.
Glen and several others always noticed and jumped to it
before I could even think to ask. Also, Glenn is the insulation king!

Larry Kessler can do pretty much anything, paint, tile, hang sheetrock. He's not so great with getting photographed. I wish I could capture the grin on his face when he's outsmarted me.

Kim Kessler has been filling in on different teams as needed.
She's hard working and not afraid to get dirty.
She really has a heart for the people still trying to recover here in Houston.

Mike Krape is quiet most of the time.
I never see him not working, except when he is talking with the children,
and the people who have brought lunch. He's a good listener.

Mike Dugger's enthusiasm never seems to flag.
He likes to laugh and joke around,
but when he gets serious he's got something worth sharing.

At the end of the day, we're glad to sit down to hot, authentic Mexican food.
The cooks here feeding us know what they're doing.

Pray for Todd. We think he may need counseling when we get back.
